The Ultimate Bible Dictionary
How many times do you get to a certain person, location, or symbol in the Bible and wonder, “What is that?” I recommend a lot of Bible study tools and resources, many of which are apps or websites, but I love a good physical book to keep handy when I’m studying scripture. I recently discovered “The Ultimate Bible Dictionary” and think it’s a great resource to add to your Bible study library.

“The Ultimate Bible Dictionary” says that it is “a quick and concise guide to the people, places, objects, and events in the Bible”. Coming it at only 5″ x 7″, it’s compact size makes it easy to throw in your Bible study or church bag for easy reference.

STUDY EXAMPLE USING “THE ULTIMATE BIBLE DICTIONARY”
I recently walked through the first chapter of Daniel on TikTok, going through each of the 8 Simple Steps to Study Scripture. One of the steps involves looking up each person mentioned in the text and writing a short biography of them.
In “The Ultimate Bible Dictionary”, we can look up each person in Daniel 1 and learn more. For example,
➕JEHOIAKIM: This King of Judah’s name means “Yahweh has caused to stand”. He was the son of Josiah, and was given the throne by Pharaoh Neco of Egypt, who deposed his brother Johoahaz. Originally, his name was Eliakim (2 Kings 23:34).
➕DANIEL: Daniel’s name means “God is judge” or “God’s judge” in Hebrew. He is the son of David and Abigail the Carmelites (1 Chronicles 3:1) and is called Chileab in 2 Samuel 3:3. He returned with Ezra from Babylonian captivity.
➕NEBUCHADNEZZAR: His name means “Nabu protects”. He was King of Babylon from 605-582 BC, son of Nabopolassar, and inherited the throne upon the death of his father. He was a general under his father, brilliant in strategy, and built Babylon to be the greatest architectural advancement of its time.
We can also learn more about the nations of Judah and Babylon, read the book summary for the book of Daniel, see maps of the nation of Babylon at this time, including the route the exiles took from Judah to Babylon, and so much more!
