Promise Keeper Bible Reading Plan

One of the recurring themes of the Bible is the theme of covenants, agreements between God and mankind. Covenants are more than promises, but they demonstrate the faithfulness of God in keeping His promises. In this new reading plan, Promise Keeper, you will read daily scriptures related to different covenants in the Bible, seeing covenants as they were established, when they were broken due to sin, and God’s plan for redemption and restoration. WHAT IS A COVENANT?

A covenant is a sacred agreement between two parties, and in the context of this Bible reading plan, the focus is on covenants between God and another party.

Covenants are different from contracts. A contract establishes ownership of property, while a covenant establishes ownership of a people-group. The covenants you will read in the Promise Keeper Bible Reading Plan establish the Israelites as God’s chosen people.

Now this is what the Lord says—
the One who created you, Jacob,
and the One who formed you, Israel —
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name; you are Mine.
– Isaiah 43:1

Covenants established by God include both a blessing and a curse: a blessing for obedience, a curse for disobedience. For example, in Deuteronomy 28, God tells the Israelites their blessing will be abundance, prosperity and rest if they will follow His commands, but if they disobey, their enemies will rise up against them.

Throughout the 31 days of the Promise Keeper Bible Reading Plan, you will see God establish covenants with His chosen people, as well as the different symbols or oaths of each covenant. You will also see what happens when mankind breaks the covenants, but ultimately see God has a plan for redemption and restoration from the beginning.
