Advent Week 2: Peace Through the Prince of Peace
The second week of Advent draws our hearts toward peace, a peace that surpasses all understanding and comes directly from Jesus, the Prince of Peace. While the world may define peace as the absence of conflict, God’s peace is much deeper. It is the presence of wholeness, rest, and assurance in Him, even in the middle of life’s storms.
Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful. – John 14:27

Peace through the Prince of Peace
When the angels appeared to the shepherds on the night of Jesus’ birth, they declared, “‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to people he favors!” (Luke 2:14). This peace wasn’t just a feeling or a fleeting moment of calm. It was a proclamation of what Jesus came to bring—a restored relationship between God and humanity. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus made a way for us to have lasting peace with God.
What Does God’s Peace Look Like?
God’s peace is different from anything the world can offer.
- The peace of God surpasses all understanding. Having a relationship with God gives a peace that cannot be understood, because it transcends our circumstances. Even in the midst of heartache, grief, or pain, we can experience peace in God. Read: Philippians 4:6-7
- We have peace knowing who holds our future. God tells us in scripture to expect difficulty, but we know that our future is secure in the God who created our very existence, the God who has gone before us, and the God who conquers all. Read: John 16:33
- God’s peace is everlasting. When we live in the Spirit, the Spirit lives in us – forever. The peace that comes from God is not something that goes away, like the things of this earth, but it is eternal. Read: John 14:27
Reflecting on Peace
As you reflect this week, consider where you need God’s peace in your life. Are you anxious about something? Are there relationships that feel strained or broken? Jesus invites us to cast all our burdens on Him (1 Peter 5:7) and receive the peace only He can provide.
Practical Steps to Embrace Peace This Week
- Create a Peaceful Space: Spend time in quiet prayer and meditation each day. Turn off distractions and focus on God’s presence.
- Meditate on Scripture: Memorize verses about God’s peace, like Philippians 4:6-7 or Isaiah 26:3. Let His Word fill your mind and calm your heart.
- Light the Candle of Peace: If you have an Advent wreath, light the second candle to symbolize the peace we have in Christ. As the flame burns, reflect on how Jesus brings peace into your life.
- Be a Peacemaker: Ask God to show you one way you can bring peace to someone else this week. It could be through reconciling a relationship, offering a kind word, or helping someone in need.
Living Out Peace
Living in God’s peace doesn’t mean life will be free of challenges. Instead, it means trusting that He is with you and in control, no matter what you face. When Jesus said, “Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid,” He wasn’t promising an easy road but a peace that comes from knowing He walks with us.
Closing Prayer
Prince of Peace, thank You for the gift of Your presence in our lives. In a world filled with anxiety and uncertainty, remind us that You are our refuge and strength. Help us to rest in Your peace and share it with those around us. Teach us to be peacemakers, pointing others to the hope we have in You. Amen.
As you move through this week, keep your eyes on the Prince of Peace. Let His presence calm your heart, and may His peace flow through you to bring light and love to those around you. Jesus came to bring peace to the world—and to you. Rest in that truth.
